Not a Hero Chp. 2

Chapter 2: The Creature

Noah got his school project in the classroom. Outside was already dark.

“I should really get back home now,” said Noah.

He was walking down the hallway, thinking about what he should eat for dinner today.

Then, there was a sound.

Noah stopped.

It was silent

“Huh? Did I hear it wrong?” said Noah. He continued walking down the hallway.

Noah heard the sound of someone walking toward him quickly. Noah felt his heart beating fast. He couldn’t turn his head around. He just kept on walking faster and faster. The sound was getting louder and louder, walking faster and faster. Noah’s head filled with thoughts: “Is it someone from our school? Student? Teacher? Staff? What if it’s not from our school? If it catches me, what should I do?”

While Noah was rushing through the thoughts, he felt someone’s hand touching his shoulder. His heart stopped. He slowly turned his head around.

It was Mr. Hugh, the school’s guard. With relief, Noah sighed. Mr. Hugh asked what Noah is doing at this time.

“Oh sorry Mr. Hugh, I just forgot to bring my school project home. I was about to go back home—”

Splat.

            “Huh?” said Noah.

He felt a warmth on his face, dripping down his face. He felt a warm liquid in his mouth, which tasted musty and bitter, something rusty. He wiped his face off with his hands. It was red or could say more of black. It was sticky and gooey and gave off a smell of metal.

“What is this?” said Noah with his voice trembling.

When he lifted his head. He saw Mr. Hugh without his head. His neck was spitting out blood like a fountain. Then he saw Mr. Hugh’s head rolling on the ground.

Noah vomited. His hand started to tremble. His breath was getting heavier. He didn’t know what in the world was going on.

Noah heard a sound, he looked up. There was a beast that looks like a deer. No, not even an animal, it was a creature.

The creature and Noah’s eyes contacted.

“Oh,” Noah thought. His leg didn’t move.

“Is this how I die? Without even having a girlfriend. Without even traveling to Europe? Without getting a job?”

The creature opened his mouth.

Noah had a flashback; his memories were filled with the memories he had with his uncle. He thought: “Sorry uncle, I don’t think I will live long like you wanted me to.”

Noah closed his eyes.

Boom.

The whole building shook.

Noah carefully opened his eyes. There, he saw the creature blown away to the other side of the hallway, by this teenager that looked same age as he was.

Noah blankly looked at the situation.

“Hey, can you stand up?” said the guy who mysteriously showed up and blew the creature across the hallway.

“Um, yeah, I think I can,” said Noah looking puzzled.

“I want you to run away fast as you can and get out of this building.”

            “What? How about you?”

“Are you in a position to say that? Look, you seem like you got hurt bad. Anyways you can’t even notice your knee.”

Noah’s knees were all scraped.  His face had a small cut made from the small fragment from the explosion that happened. Nevertheless, Noah had small injuries all over his body.

“Wait, then can you at least explain to me what that is?” said Noah.

“Huh? You can see it?” he mumbled. “That’s strange.” Then he said to Noah:

“I will tell you this once, so listen carefully. The creature that attacked you is called a ‘nok’, a creature that is created out of human’s negative feelings like boringness, procrastination, unmotivated, hatred, hollowness, sadness, and jealousy.”

“Wow, so monsters do actually exist, huh.” said Noah

“This is not a time to debate about that. Leave this place now.”

The monster slowly stood up.

“Tsk, was one punch not enough?” said the guy.

“Ok, listen. This guy is dangerous. You need to leave right now, and don’t look back. OK, did you get what I said—”

Pow.

Boom.

The guy flung away and crashed into the wall.

“Hey, you, ok??!!” shouted Noah as he ran to him.

“You idiot, I told you to run away,” said the guy with his head covered with blood.

“Can you stand up? Let’s get out of this building together,” said Noah helping the guy stand up.

The creature, or the “nok”, did not wait for them to run away.

Noah saw the creature running towards them. Noah got scared and started to panic.

“There is no good thing about saving me, just leave me and go!” shouted the guy.

Noah remembered his uncle’s words.

Noah screamed and punched the nok hard.

BOOM.

The creature went flying outside the building.

The guy was shocked.

“How? You wouldn’t even be able to touch nok,” said the guy with confusion.

“Hey, my uncle once said that there is no such thing as good or bad, no such thing as fair and unfair, and no such thing as right or wrong,” said Noah as his fist was dripping out blood. “He told me to define my own good and bad and see the fair and unfair so that later I would be able to choose my right and wrong. So, I decided that helping you was a good thing and that this is correct! I am not going to leave you here!”

The guy snorted,

“Sure, what is your name?”

            “My name is Noah Archiviste.”

“My name is Khari, Khari Blau.”
